Public Presentations:
Shipwrecks of the Apostle Islands
The first volume in the Lake Superior Shipwreck Series, Under An Autumn Moon – The Apostle Islands, forms the basis for this presentation. The presentation also elaborates on the history and geology of Lake Superior, which includes historical shipping information as a means of explaining the importance of Lake Superior to the development of commerce and populations around the Lake Superior region. The presentation will include a discussion of video clips of the shipwreck explorations from the films. Other components of the presentation cover cold-water diving, the diving technology used, and unique underwater videography equipment. Michael Hladilek and Kimberly Bakken are adventurers and delight in sharing their work with others, as it is their goal to emphasize conservation of the historic shipwreck sites, as well as promote stewardship of the Lake Superior and Great Lakes region. They are happy to discuss their work, the diving technology, shipping history, regional history, and filming techniques after their presentation.
Other Public Program Ideas: The typical program is targeted for the interested adult, but it can be tailored for any age group, including library and classroom groups. They are happy to work with any group interested in historical preservation and conservation of the Great Lakes. |
