Mysteries of Aztalan

Located near Lake Mills, Aztalan is Wisconsin's premier archaeological site. It was occupied by a group of Mississippian Indians from southern Illinois between A.D. 1050 and 1200 who built an agricultural and ceremonial town with large earthen platform mounds and who enclosed the town with large wood and clay walls. This presentation describes the town and its history based on archaeological evidence. It also discusses the mysteries that still surround the site.

Fort Blue Mounds and the Black Hawk War

The year 2007 marks the 175th anniversary of the Black Hawk War of 1832, a pivotal event in Wisconsin history. This presentation describes the tragic conflict from the perspective of a frontier lead mining town, Blue Mounds, where the townspeople built a fort to defend against attack. Birmingham will also describe the role that Fort Blue Mounds played in the Black Hawk War and the fascinating and informative results of archaeological excavations at the fort site.
