Gone But Not Forgotten: Milwaukee's Lost Homes of Grand Avenue
In this presentation, Pabst Mansion historian John Eastberg recalls the days of mansions on Milwaukee's Grand Avenue. He will show a collection of slides compiled over several years documenting many of the more than 70 homes that once lined the most prestigious residential street in Wisconsin. Viewers will be delighted by rare early photographs of these magnificent structures and their histories. Sadly, most of these unique residences met their fate in front of the wrecking ball. This presentation will highlight the need for, and role of, historic preservation with tangible examples.
The Architectural Firm of Ferry & Clas
One of the great architectual firms to have designed in the Midwest, the firm of Ferry & Clas will be explored through this slide presentation. Rare photographs and color slides of their original architectural renderings make for an in-depth lecture of the firm that designed the Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion, State Historical Society Building, and the Milwaukee Public Library, to name but a few. Ferry & Clas completed over 350 buildings statewide over the course of a 23 year partnership, many of which still stand today.
