Roots, Shoots, and Blooms: Oral Histories of Adults in Dane County, Wisconsin Who are Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled-Culminating Event

Roots, Shoots, and Blooms: Oral Histories of Adults in Dane County, Wisconsin who are Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled examines the life's journey taken by 10 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in Dane County. This population historically has had its voice usurped by other well-intentioned adult caretakers. Those with intellectual disabilities take part in supported employment and daytime enrichment activities at Community Support Network. They have chosen a program which has the mission to self-actualize and integrate with the community. This oral history project documents each subject's life in three stages: struggles and joys in early life (roots), experiences of profound self-growth (shoots), and personal successes based on self-determination and choice (blooms).
