Culture Work: Narratives of Production in a "Post-Industrial" City-Mural Unveiling with presentation of Interviews/Documentary Screening
This project uses the humanities as a means to reframe the ways we think about the history and, in turn, the contemporary landscape of Milwaukee. A collaboration between ArtWorks for Milwaukee, UW-Milwaukee's Peck School for the Arts, and the Milwaukee School for Engineering (MSOE), the project involves the collection, documentation, and display of stories of the Latino community to offer a more complete recent history of Milwaukee. High school, undergraduate, and graduate students collected stories to create oral histories, which were translated to a large mural on the side of the Butters-Fetting Building, a 90 year-old company that is still operating in the Walker's Point neighborhood. This event celebrates the unveiling of the mural.
