2005-2006 A More Perfect Union: The Common Defense
The 2005-2006 discussion series, “The Common Defense,” includes four books that prompt us to ask questions surrounding a nation’s military action. What does our government choose to defend militarily and why? What did our Founding Fathers intend for us to defend? Our sovereignty? Our borders? Our safety? Our values? Our economic interests? How consistent are we in our foreign policy? What profound moral and ethical issues come with being the world’s top military super power? As citizens, what does it mean to be a voice of dissent and what does it mean to support our troops? Are the two mutually exclusive?
