Call for Proposals: Farming and Rural Life
Sponsored by the Wisconsin Humanities Council and The Boldt Company
MADISON, WI, August 22, 2006 — The Wisconsin Humanities Council (WHC) invites grant proposals for public humanities projects related to the theme of “Farming & Rural Life in Wisconsin.” Grants will be awarded to organizations in communities with populations of 5,000 residents or less, and whose programs explore the rich and diverse histories, arts, ideas, and values of Wisconsin’s evolving rural and agricultural heritage.
Successful applications will provide a humanities-based complement to the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters’ The Future of Farming and Rural Life in Wisconsin, an initiative that aims to develop a new vision for the future of agriculture and rural life in Wisconsin (more information available at www.wisconsinacademy.org/idea/index.html). Therefore, the WHC encourages proposals that help rural communities address the economic, environmental, and population changes they face, using the humanities to promote collective reflection and community conversation. Projects that increase the scope of existing community programs and/or bring together a diverse range of organizations (nonprofit, business, faith communities, social service providers, etc.) are encouraged.
This grant pool is supported by a $15,000 donation from The Boldt Company, a Wisconsin-based construction services organization. The WHC will match these private sector funds with $15,000 of federal funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. There are no special guidelines or application forms necessary, simply extra funds earmarked for relevant programs in eligible communities. Organizations may apply for major- or mini-grants using the standard WHC application process. For application forms and more information visit www.wisconsinhumanities.org or call 608-262-0706.
