Of Time and Place: The River Bend Trail-Merrill's Heritage and Cultural Landscape
Merrill citizens are deeply concerned about the city's shrinking population, below subsistence-paying jobs, young people fleeing to urban centers and the increasing need for elder care. There is an urgent need to transform the cultural identity of Merrill now. To address this need and create a deeper appreciation of Merrill's cultural heritage, increase citizen engagement, invigorate economic development, and build an awareness that the River Bend Trail is becoming a foundation for Merrill's emerging cultural identity. This discussion serves as a culmination of this planning and mapping process with a presentation on the heritage and cultural landscape of Merrill.
