Collections and Connections: The Wisconsin Academy at 150-Curator's Talk-Free Exhibition Tour
Heritage and Horizons explores the Academy's complex and fascinating history through objects, photographs, and interpretive texts. Curated by artist Martha Glowacki, a Wisconsin native known for her work exploring the history of science, the main feature of the exhibit is her imaginative recreation of the archaeological and natural history collections gathered by early members of the Academy like Increase Lapham, Thomas Chamberlin and Edward Birge. Public programs include a moderated conversation between a material culture historian and a historian of science; a poetry reading and conversation addressing the ethics of collecting and exhibiting Native American art and artifacts; paired talks about the Academy's early collecting and the UW's effort to provide online access to its natural history collections; and a series of informal exhibit tours.
